The beautiful lawn of the Ximenez Fatio House will be the setting for the stories of three influential Floridians told by members of the Florida Storytelling Troupe – David Fussell, Kathy Kniery and Debra Weller.
Governor William DuVal and his wife, Nancy Hynes Duval will be portrayed by Mr. Fussell and Ms. Kniery. Governor DuVal, the first territorial governor of Florida, was appointed in 1821. Under his administration, Florida became a part of the United States. He established governmental and court systems as well as dealing with the local Indian tribes to preserve the peace. His wife, Nancy, was instrumental in establishing “society” in Tallahassee and raised a large family in this new territory.
Debra Weller will relate the story of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, legendary author and society figure in Florida during the 1930s and ’40s. Her stories of Cross Creek, Florida are still loved by many readers throughout the world.
