DUO BEAUX ARTS in Concert – Catherine Lan and Tao Lin, duo pianists
Romanza Festivale favorite, Duo Beaux Arts was formed in 2008 by internationally renowned husband and wife concert pianists and recording artists, Catherine Lan and Tao Lin. Known for its adrenalized performances, this dynamic Duo has performed in France, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, Estonia, Finland, the Netherlands, China and the US to both critical and audience acclaim. They have been featured on TV, radio and print media across the US; their recent engagements have included concerto appearances with South Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Swan City Piano Festival as well as concert tours across the USA and abroad.
Dr. Lan is praised by critics as a pianist with “fluent technique, sensitive musicianship and probing intellect”. Born in Taiwan and raised in Canada, she received a Bachelor of Music from the University of British Columbia, Master of Music from Indiana University and Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Miami. She serves on the faculty of Broward College and records for Centaur Records. Dr. Lan has concertized around the world and her highly acclaimed performances have been featured on Public Television, “Beethoven Universal TV” series, Becon TV, Fu-Hsin Broadcasting Station and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Radio. Although she often performs as a solo artist, she also concertizes with Duo Arpeggione, Duo Formosa, Tallinn Piano Trio, Atlantic Piano Trio and Beaux Arts Chamber Ensemble.
Mr. Lin has been described by critics as possessing “keen musical intelligence and excellent facility” as well as having an “opulent and romantic tone”. As a soloist and Steinway artist, Mr. Lin has performed across Asia, North America and Europe with orchestras including the Moscow Chamber, Winnipeg Symphony, Atlantic Classical and Knoxville Civic. A devoted chamber musician, he has concertized as a member of the Berlin Piano Quartet, St. Petersburg Piano Quartet and Brahms Piano Quartet. A frequent pianist and lecturer at the Music Festival of the Hamptons and Mainly Mozart Festival, Mr. Lin is also a visiting professor at Shanghai Normal University and on the piano faculty at the Bowdoin International Music Festival. He records for Centaur Records, Naxos, and Artek labels.
Their program will include works by Schubert, Beethoven and Mendelssohn performing both as a duo as well as single artists.
