The Commons of St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church will be the venue for special Romanza “Little Night Music” events on Tuesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 9. On Tuesday, May 7, the serene courtyard and labyrinth will provide the setting for a concert by DRUMBEAT, a group of ten youth from the St. Johns Youth Academy led by Amber Hall. DRUMBEAT is a unique evidence-based social/emotional learning program incorporating hand drumming which has been proven to build resilience and show measurable changes in social behavior. The acronym, DRUMBEAT, stands for Discovering, Relationships, Using, Music, Beliefs, Emotions, Attitudes and Thoughts. Participants work as a team to set and enforce group boundaries, discuss social issues through rhythm analogies and prepare for group performances.
This is the second year of the DRUMBEAT program at the St. Johns Youth Academy, led by Amber Hall, a volunteer with Compassionate St. Augustine. Ms. Hall also works teaching drumming at nursing homes, daycare centers, schools, civic groups and teaching team building for companies and other gatherings. Don’t miss seeing this amazing program in action!
Bring your own drum, beans in a can – any kind of percussion instrument to join in the drumming.
