A Gershwin Evening
First Coast Opera

A Gershwin Evening" presented by First Coast Opera. This evening of music featuring Gershwin favorites sung by professional vocalists will include Curtis Powell playing "Rhapsody in Blue". The celebrated 30-voice North Florida Women's Chorale, under the direction of Kerry Fradley with Maureen Rhodes accompanying, will perform "Chocolates and Other Delights", a program celebrating many of life's simple sweetnesses. The program will include bittersweet songs such as "Life Has Loveliness", "Ubi Caritas" and "Tiger" and songs celebrating aspects of dark and light featuring "Nigra Sum", "Hot Chocolate" and the calypso-style "Buy Me Chocolate". The concert series, Music by the Sea, kicks off tonight at 6 pm with food service provided by the Wildflower Cafe. The concert, featuring the Outta Sight Band from the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, will begin at 7 pm. Bring your lawn chair, enjoy dinner at a great price and listen to beautiful music in a great atmosphere! FREE concert. Fee for dinner.

Jazz Vespers in the church will feature jazz and blues by Mama Blue and her band. Jazz Vespers with Mama Blue followed by a wine and cheese reception in the Mission House. Mama Blue (Sarah Saunders) brings a soulful touch to great jazz. Weather permitting the service will be held in The Commons at St. Cyprian’s adjacent to the church. Free concert.  The Youth Chorus, directed by Kerry Fradley with Janet Landers accompanying  will present songs from many countries  including South Africa, England, Mexico, Italy, and of course the United States. They will sing such favorites as “Somewhere Out There”,  “Kusimama”, and “Rattlesnake Skipping Song”. The Glad Melody Gang, an eclectic recorder ensemble will accompany the chorus and play several pieces of their own including the “Zip Code Boogie” and “ Cielito Lindo”.   FREE
