A Classical all F minor program!

Friday May 3
at St. Augustine Cathedral Basilica
38 Cathedral Pl, 32084

Havana-born pianist Juana Zayas began her musical career at a very early age, performing complicated classical pieces as a little girl. Her mother, realizing her daughter was a child prodigy, took charge of her musical education and Ms. Zayas gave her first recital at age 7. She graduated with a Gold Medal from the Peyrellade Conservatory at age 11 and six years later, she entered the Conservatoire National Superior de Musique de Paris. At the Conservatoire, she studied piano with Joseph Benvenuti and chamber music with Rene Le Roy, receiving first prize in both fields.

After Ms. Zayas and her husband married in Versaille, they moved to America where she studied with Adele Marcus, David Barilla and Josef Raieff. After a hiatus from concertizing to raise her children, Ms. Zayas returned to the concert stage to glowing reviews and appreciative audiences the world over.

A Steinway artist, Ms. Zayas has given recitals throughout Europe, South America and the United States. She is known in particular for her exquisite and moving performances of the works of Chopin. The critic Harold Schonberg declared: “Ms. Zayas turned out to be a Chopinist to the manner born.” Her performances have been broadcast by National Public Radio and New York’s WQXR. Her recordings delight audiences worldwide.

Ms. Zayas will play Haydn’s “Andante Variations in F minor”, Beethoven’s “Sonata in F minor” and three works by Chopin: “Fantasy in F minor” Op. 49; “Etude”, Op. 25, No. 2; and “Ballade in F minor”, Op. 52.

This is a FREE concert. An opportunity will be available to contribute at the door.
