Historic District, St. George Street and Government House

The Garrison's "Changing of the Guard" is the signature opening event for Romanza Festivale. Don't miss this colorful ceremony in front of Government House in the Plaza. FREE
St. Augustine's Spanish Garrison conducts a 1740 Changing of the Guard Ceremony in the city's Plaza de la Constitucion.   The event begins at 6:00 p.m., with two groups of soldiers marching from the Spanish Bakery -- one heads north on St. George Street to the City Gate and the other group comes south on the street to the Governor's House where they will demonstrate Spanish military arts and explain the purpose of the Changing of the Guard.  At 6:30 p.m., after greeting the public at the City Gate, the second group of soldiers march down St. George Street to join their comrades at the Governor's House where the Changing of the Guard, complete with a volley of musketry, will be performed. The Garrison will then march back to the Spanish Bakery.  St. George St., and Governor's House on the Plaza

Fountain of Youth, Magnolia Avenue

Take a step back in time to St. Augustine's Spanish Colonial Period by visiting the St. Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation's Astillero (boatyard). The Astillero is located on the historic waterfront grounds of the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park. Housed in the Cobertizo (boatshed) is the authentic replica Chalupa (utility workboat) under construction for her participation in the 450th celebration. Maritime Heritage Volunteers will be onsite to provide the historic background and to demonstrate typical 16th century "power tools". Explore the Shipwright's thatched cottage which showcases the waddle and daub fabrication technique.

The Nautical Art of Boat Building at the St. Augustine Lighthouse

- The Festivale Procession begins at the City Gate at the top of St. George Street and ends at the Aviles Street "Romanza" art fair

The Romanza Festivale Procession, featuring the JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS DRUM-LINE, invites historic re-enactors, colorful flags, costumed adults and children to join the fun. Just wear period attire or any fun costume and show up at the assembly. (No political messages, please) The Procession assembles at 1:00 pm in the clock circle of the Visitor Information Center (VIC), 10 W. Castillo Dr., St. Augustine, FL and steps off at 1:30 pm. The parade route goes through the Ancient City Gate, up historic St. George Street, across the Plaza de la Constitucione and arrives at the Aviles Street Festivale. FREE

Sunset Moonrise at the St. Augustine Lighthouse

The Sunset Moonrise is a tour of the tower, during which participants climb 214 steps and watch the sun set and the moon rise as the light comes on in the 1874 original Fresnel lens atop the St. Augustine Lighthouse. Champagne and fruit is served and a volunteer guide gives details about the lighthouse tower.

VeloFest Cruise to Move Bike Parade

VeloFest begins tonight with a Cruise to Move Bike Parade beginning at the Downtown Parking Garage and ending at the West Lawn of Flagler College. This family friendly bike parade celebrates the start of the VeloFest weekend and encourages riders to ride their "Cruiser" and bike along the parade route that winds along the bay front and through town ending at Flagler College where riders will be greeted with music and activities.

VeloFest Sykes Cooper Road Race

This second annual classic style bicycle race starts approximately 15 miles from downtown St. Augustine in the beautiful farm lands of St John's County. The 36 mile loop winds along the St. John's on the William Bartram Scenic & Historic Highway and then brings the riders back through the farm lands for a fast finish.
