The St. Augustine Art Association is pleased to present “Where Art Meets History,” May 3 – 26. More than 50 fine artists from near and far will create the original works during the 3rd Annual St. Augustine Paint Out, April 23 – May 1. Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and Plein Air Magazine, the Paint Out event celebrates the town’s historic, architectural and coastal beauty and offers the public an opportunity to interact with artists working at their easels. This juried exhibition of plein air paintings captures the Old World charm of the nation’s oldest city.
The St. Augustine Art Association will be hosting an awards ceremony to honor the outstanding entries in this event on Friday, May 3 from 5:30 – 7 pm. This culmination of the St. Augustine Plein Air Paint Out will be held in the Art Association Gallery at 22 Marine Street and is by invitation only to the artists and their guests. The $2,500 Clark and Alice Alger Awards for Excellence in Plein Air, including a $1,000 Best in Show, will be presented.
For the first year, Romanza will be presenting a special award to the artist who creates the work which best exemplifies their motto: Where the Arts Embrace the Sea.
At 7 pm the Art Association will open its doors to the public and all the art works submitted in the exhibition “Where Art Meets History” can be viewed. Of particular interest to Festivale attendees, will be the award winners and others who have honored St. Augustine with their talent.
