The martial arts of Asia have reached out across the oceans and touched the enthusiasm of Americans from coast to coast. Since their formal introduction to this country in the early 1950’s, thousands of schools have sprung up teaching a wide variety of disciplines. Martial arts training is unlike any other type of physical or mental exercise found in other disciplines in the world.
Master Andrew Schirmacher is the organizer and emcee of this demonstration. He began his study of Chinese martial arts in New Jersey in 1973 with Dr. Jou Tsung Hwa, continuing his studies for an additional twenty years under Grandmaster Hsu Fun Yuen beginning in 1975. Master Andrew has studied many different martial arts styles, including tai chi chuan, tam tui, kung fu, xing yi, qi gong, tong bae chuan, push hands, Chinese weapons, hapkido, seven star praying mantis and self defense. He has traveled to China on three separate occasions to further his understanding of the martial arts and Chinese culture.
Many different forms of martial arts will be demonstrated this evening by representatives from local schools including tai chi chuan, kung fu, ba gua, karate, tae kwon do and more.
